The awesome return of...

The '80s keep returning, and Cynthia Turner's Cynopsis: Kids filled me in on this radical news:

Entertainment Rights has signed a deal to release He-Man and the Masters of the Universe in Universal Media Disc (UMD) format in the US. This follows ER's agreement with US He-Man DVD partner, BCI Eclipse for the US PSP rights to He-Man. The first two He-Man titles will be released on UMD video this August 2005. UMD and PSP technology allows consumers to play games, watch movies and listen to music on a handheld device. Through an agreement with BCI Eclipse, ER will act as He-Man's DVD partner in the US and Canada. The first DVD title, The Best of He-Man and the Masters of the Universe is releasing this week.
With the neverending rumors swirling as recently as yesterday about the on-again off-again Transformers movie, DreamWorks Pictures, Hasbro and Paramount unveiled the new release date for the movie will be over the holiday weekend, July 4, 2007. The movie previously had been slated for November 2006. Additionally, action movie producer/director Michael Bay (Bad Boys I & II, Pearl Harbor, Armageddon) has been tapped to direct the movie the movie. Finally, DreamWorks is launching the official Transformers movie website this week at Comic-Con International. The live action movie adaptation of the animated series The Transformers is being penned by Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci (Mission: Impossible 3, the TV series Alias etc). Steven Spielberg will Executive Produce with Lorenzo di Bonaventura (Four Brothers), Tom DeSanto (X-Men and X2: X-Men United) and Don Murphy (The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen) serving as co-executive producers. DreamWorks will distribute the film domestically, while Paramount will handle the international release. Hasbro will work with the production team and DreamWorks on all aspects of the film's creative development, marketing and promotions, and will manage merchandising in conjunction with the film. The Transformers TV series and movie are all based on Hasbro's 1980s line of toys.
